Auburn Volleyball Heads to Orange Beach for American Riviera Classic
November 23, 2004
AUBURN, Ala. - The Auburn volleyball team will close the books on the 2004 campaign this weekend with a two-day invitational at the Orange Beach Rec. Center. The Tigers will face Xavier on Friday, Nov. 26, and Temple on Saturday, Nov. 27, in the inaugural American Riviera Classic. Both matches will start at 2:30 p.m. CT.
The Tigers are 11-14 after battling through a tough Southeastern Conference schedule, which saw the Tigers go 6-10 in league play, their best conference mark since the 1999 season. AU earned the seventh seed last weekend's SEC Tournament and fell to eventual tournament champion Tennessee, 3-1, in the opening round.
Ashlee Johns continues to pace the Tigers' offense and the senior enters this weekend just 16 kills shy of 1,000 for her career. Also playing a big role for the Tigers this year has been SEC All-Freshman selection Whitney Jacob, who is just eight blocks shy of 100 for the season and is hitting a team-best .306 on the season.
Joining AU, Xavier and Temple will be #22-ranked Florida A&M. The Rattlers won the MEAC Tournament and are 26-2 on the season. They will face Temple on Friday and Xavier on Saturday in 11 a.m. matches.
