Match Notes: Matches 12 - 13 (South Carolina and Florida)
AUBURN - Posting an 8-3 record in non-conference play, the Auburn volleyball team hits the road this weekend to open its SEC schedule at South Carolina (7-2) and Florida(7-0).
The Tigers are coming off a 2-1 weekend at the UTSA Classic in San Antonio, Texas. Auburn downed Louisiana Tech (3-1) and host Texas-San Antonio (3-0) before falling to Texas A&M (3-0) in what proved to be the championship match. Auburn finished second in the four-team tournament.
This season marks the second in a row that Auburn enters its SEC schedule with eight wins. The Tigers were also 8-3 last season when the team opened SEC play at South Carolina with a 3-2 loss.
"Both South Carolina and Florida have winning records coming into conference and are very skilled and athletic teams," said head coach Laura Farina. "Playing anywhere on the road in the SEC is a tough battle and we're looking forward to starting conference play."
Action begins at 6 p.m. CT, Friday with the match against South Carolina. Sunday's match at Florida is slated for a 12:30 p.m. CT start.
The Auburn Volleyball team is in its 22nd year of existence and holds an all-time record of 332-331 for a .501 winning percentage... Head Coach Laura Farina is in her sixth season with the team and holds a 51-98 (.342) record at Auburn... Last season the Tigers finished with a 13-18 record and were 5-15 in SEC play, finishing sixth in the SEC West... Auburn returns six letterwinners, four starters, from 2006 and welcomes nine newcomers.
ON THE SCHEDULE THIS WEEK
The Tigers open SEC play this week with matches at South Carolina (Friday, 6 p.m. CT) and No. 7 Florida (Sunday, 12:30 p.m. CT).
South Carolina holds a 15-6 all-time advantage against Auburn and has won the last 14 matches. Auburn's last win against the Gamecocks was at home in 1995 in a sweep. Florida holds a 28-1 advantage over Auburn with the only Tiger win coming at home in 1990 in a 3-1 decision.

Auburn continues SEC play next weekend with home matches against Tennessee (Friday, 7 p.m.) and Kentucky (Sunday, 1:30 p.m.).
LAST SEASON VS. SOUTH CAROLINA & FLORIDA
Auburn battled to five games in both meetings against the Gamecocks, but came up short both times with a pair of 3-2 losses. In the first meeting, Auburn won games one and three, but fell short in a 13-15 loss in game five. Rachel Shanks led the team with 23 kills, followed by Jessica Glover with 20. Auburn again won games one and three in the second meeting, but fell 15-10 in the deciding game for the loss. Four Tigers hit in double figures in the match with Shanks leading the team with 17 kills. Whitney Jacob finished right behind her with 16.
Against Florida, Auburn fell in straight games (30-19, 30-21, 30-15) to the 10th-ranked Gators. Shanks led the team with 10 kills. In the second meeting, the Tigers were able to pull out a win in game three to avoide the sweep, but still fell to No. 7 Florida, 3-1 (17-30, 22-30, 31-29, 27-30). Shanks led the team with 18 kills.
