Preseason Practice Update: Intrasquad Scrimmage
Aug. 16, 2009
AUBURN, Ala. - The Auburn Blue defeated the Auburn Orange during the volleyball team's intrasquad scrimmage on Sunday, Aug. 16, at the Student Activities Center. The scrimmage was split into four sets, each using different scoring systems. Although Blue won the scrimmage, 4-0, each set saw great competition with close scores. "The match went well and we saw some good things from a handful of players," Wade Benson, head volleyball coach, said. "Competition is going to be fierce for starting positions." After a full week of two-a-day practices, Sunday's scrimmage was a way for both coaches and athletes to be able to play without drills and get an idea where they stand. "The scrimmage was quite successful and it pointed out the areas that we need to work on before the season begins," Chris Campbell, associate head coach, said. "With having 10 new players to the team, we are where we hoped to be at this point of preseason and that's encouraging." Auburn opens the 2009 season with its annual War Eagle Invitational, Aug. 28-29. The Tigers take on in-state rivals Alabama A&M and Alabama-Birmingham in the two-day tournament.
