Auburn Volleyball Signs Mieka Jackson

AUBURN - The Auburn volleyball program, under the direction of first year head coach Laura Farina, has signed freshman setter/right side Mieka Jackson of Hamilton, Ontario.

Jackson, who was a member of the Hamilton Seekers Volleyball Club, played on six provincial championship teams, won four national championship titles, played in six national championship matches and helped her team to over 30 top three finishes during her tenure.

Individually, Jackson is a four-time Ontario Volleyball Association Excellence Award winner, Carstar Can-Am MVP in 2000, 2001 and 2002, Westmount Proficiency Award winner in grades 9-12 and earned the Westmount Art Award in 2002. Jackson has also received the Recognition Award from the city of Hamilton and her club team inducted her into the Copps Coliseum Hall of Fame.

''Mieka is one of the most athletic setter I have seen in the Class of 2002,'' Farina said. ''She excels in the classroom and on the court. We are very excited about her joining the Auburn Volleyball Family.''

Other schools that Jackson seriously considered were Florida State, Gonzaga, Southern Miss and Coastal.
