AUBURN -- Wade Benson has resigned as the Auburn volleyball coach, Auburn Athletics Director Jay Jacobs announced Wednesday.

"My family and I really enjoyed living in Auburn, and appreciate the opportunities that were given to us," Benson said. "We took the program to new heights and wish Auburn nothing but the best."

Benson was 43-53 in three seasons as head coach at Auburn. He led the team to a 21-13 record in 2010 including the school's first-ever trip to the NCAA Tournament. Benson was named head coach in 2008 after serving as an assistant coach on the Auburn staff for one season in 2007.

"We wish Wade and his family the best of luck in their future endeavors," Jacobs said. "I congratulate Coach Benson for taking our volleyball team to the NCAA tournament for the first time in Auburn's history this past season."

Prior to his coaching stint at Auburn, Benson coached for 11 seasons at Eastern Washington University, including seven seasons as head coach and four seasons as an assistant.
