New Orleans Improves To 2-0 At War Eagle Invitational With 3-1 Win Over Samford

AUBURN - The University of New Orleans Privateers defeated the Samford University Bulldogs in the fourth match of the 2008 War Eagle Invitational in Auburn, Ala. on Saturday, 3-1 (25-22, 23-25, 25-18, 25-12). New Orleans improves to 2-0 while Samford falls to 1-1.
For New Orleans, Lindsey Loyd had 16 kills on 27 attempts, with a .481 hitting percentage. Jaci Bayley added five kills for the Privateers and hit .625 in the match. Dobrilla Kovacevic also had 15 kills on 35 attempts and was on four of the team's six total blocks.
For Samford, Sheriden Stangohr had nine kills on 13 attempts, for a .692 hitting percentage, adding three blocks on the defensive end. Ashley Adams had 14 kills and 10 digs for the Bulldogs, earning the team's only double-double.
As a team, New Orleans had 57 kills on 113 attempts with 13 errors, for a .389 hitting percentage, while Samford hit only .222, with 44 kills on 117 attempts and 18 errors.
The Privateers will take on host Auburn (0-2) this afternoon at 4 p.m., followed by Samford (1-1) vs. Mercer (1-1) at 7 p.m. at the Auburn University Student Activities Center.
