AUBURN, Ala. - The UAB volleyball team defeated Alabama A&M 3-1 (25-20, 25-17, 21-25, 25-21) in game two on day one of the War Eagle Invitational held at the Auburn University Student Activities Center.
Freshman Sam Serley led UAB (1-0) with nine kills on 20 attempts. Junior Aley Tallman had eight kills on 15 attempts with one error, hitting a match-best .467 percent for the Blazers. Senior middle blocker Patty Paniagua had a match-best five blocks, while freshman setter Allison Woods finished with 24 assists and libero Heather Thomas had 13 digs.
Leading the way for the Bulldogs (0-2) was senior Madinah Abdullah and freshman Clarissa Moore, seeing each finish with 12 kills apiece. Setter Natalie Rodriguez had a match-high 32 assists and led the team in digs with 12.
As a team, UAB recorded 12 total blocks and finished the match with 50 kills on 124 attempts and 16 errors for a .274 hitting percentage. Alabama A&M tallied 44 kills on 124 attempts and 25 errors for a .153 hitting percentage.
The Blazers take on host Auburn (1-0) Saturday morning at 10 a.m., followed by Alabama A&M (0-2) vs. Auburn at 1 p.m. at the Student Activities Center.
