AUBURN, Ala. – Auburn women’s tennis has signed Madeline Meredith of Birmingham, Ala., the top-ranked player in Alabama and No. 23-ranked recruit in the United States, head coach Lauren Spencer announced Wednesday.
“We are beyond thrilled to sign Madeline Meredith for our fall 2017 school year,” Auburn head coach Lauren Spencer said. “Maddie is one of the most athletic and talented players in the 2017 class and we know that she will come in and make an immediate impact in our singles and doubles lineups. We believe that she has what it takes to compete at the highest level of college tennis. It is very exciting for us to sign an in-state talent, who is also an Auburn legacy.”
Along with her No. 23 ranking, Meredith is also ranked No. 6 in the southeast, according to TennisRecruiting.net. This is the second-straight season the Tigers have signed a top-10 recruit in the Southeast Region.
The 6-foot-1, right-handed Meredith has had tremendous success in 2016. In May, she advanced to the semifinals of the USTA National Selection Tournament and then reached the finals of the Southern Closed BG 18’s Championship in June.
In October, she won the 2016 Atlanta ITF doubles championship. She also competed in the 2016 Pan American Championships ITF in Tulsa, Okla.
Meredith was the Gold Ball winner at the 2015 USTA Spring Team Championships in Mobile, Ala and a Bronze Ball winner in doubles at the 2015 USTA Girls 16 Nationals. She also won the 2014 VI Copa Mangu in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
