AUBURN, Ala. - Four members of the Auburn women's tennis team travel to the Dickie V Lakewood Ranch Intercollegiate Clay Court Classic starting on Friday for its final tournament of the fall slate.
Paula de Man, Reka Muller, Ashley Kitchen and Lindsey Whitehead will represent the Tigers at the three-day event held at the Athletic Center of Lakewood Ranch in Bradenton, Fla. de Man, who enters ranked at No. 93 in the ITA Women's Preseason Rankings, went all the way to the quarterfinal round of the ITA Southern Regional before falling to Ipek Birol from Tulane.
Freshman Reka Muller is coming off a championship run in the singles consolation draw from the ITA Southern Regional Championship. Muller also had a championship win in the Razorback Classic by beating Arkansas' Shannon Hudson, 7-6(5), 6-2 on Oct. 12.
Sophomore Ashley Kitchen earned a consolation round win in three sets against New Mexico's Emily Oliver 3-6, 7-6(4), 1-0(8) at the USTA Clay Court Tournament at Disney on Oct. 27. Auburn also sends freshman Lindsey Whitehead who made it to the semifinal round of the B Draw Consolation in the ITA Southern Regional Championship.
The Dickie V Clay Court Classic will consist of men's and women's singles and doubles. The event will host a 32-player draw in singles and 16-team draw in doubles.
Auburn's joined by Memphis, Oklahoma State, Notre Dame, East Tennessee State along with SEC teams Alabama, Florida and Mississippi State and Kentucky at the final clay court event of the fall. A portion of all the proceeds raised at the tournament will benefit the V Foundation.
