AUBURN, Ala. -- The Auburn's women's tennis team prepares for the ITA Southern Regional Tournament this weekend in Birmingham, Ala. The Tigers are set to play singles and doubles matches at the Pat M. Courington Tennis Pavilion on Samford University's campus.

Auburn will face off against teams from Alabama, Jacksonville State, Louisiana-Lafayette, ULM, LSU, Mississippi State, Northwestern State, Ole Miss, South Alabama, Troy, Tulane and UAB.

"Our ITA Regional changed last year, and now it just includes schools from Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi," head coach Tim Gray said. "It's still great competition, and we are going to have to use everything that we've done this fall and hopefully that will help us have a good event this weekend."

Auburn begins play Friday, Oct. 22 at 8:30 a.m., and competition concludes with championship matches Monday, Oct. 25.

"We're extremely young, and even though we are making a lot of strides it's still four freshmen, three sophomores and a junior," Gray added. "I feel like our results this year are better than where we were a year ago, so I think we are prepared and our fall events have definitely gotten us ready."

This weekend's competition serves as qualifying rounds to advance to the USTA/ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships, Nov. 4-7 at the USTA-Billie Jean King Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y. Winners from both the main singles and doubles draws will earn a berth.
