AUBURN, Ala. – The Auburn women’s tennis team will be on their home courts this weekend starting today as it will begin competition in the ITA Southern Regional Championships. This is the fourth tournament on the busy fall schedule for the Tigers and just one week removed from the Miami Fall Invite.

Eight players on Auburn’s roster are in the main field for singles and six will play in the main draw of doubles. All matches for the championship will be played in Auburn at either the Yarbrough Tennis Center or the Auburn University Intramural Courts. Each day’s play will begin at 8 a.m. with the exception of the finals, which will start at 10 a.m.

This weekend’s tournament will serve as a regional individual championship and also as a qualifier for the USTA/ITA National Indoors Championships, which will be held at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y. on Nov. 7-10.

“We’re always excited to compete in the ITA Southern Regional,” Auburn head coach Lauren Longbotham Meisner said. “The fact that we get to do it on our home courts is even better. It’s been a busy fall season so far, so to be able to stay at home for once and still be able to compete in a great tournament is great for us.”

The Tigers are fresh off the Miami Fall Invite last weekend where the team posted 10 wins in doubles and singles. Sophomore Michala Kucharova, junior Jen Pfeifler, freshman Reka Muller and senior Jackie Kasler all competed in singles and doubles at the tournament with the doubles team of Kucharova and Muller taking the high honors for Auburn as the third-place team in the Green doubles bracket.

This week, all of those players including, sophomore Pleun Burgmans, junior Emily Flickinger, along with sophomores Paula de Man and Ashley Kitchen will be in the main singles draw looking to advance to the national indoors championships.

In doubles, Kasler and Pfeifler will team up again as the top-seeded tandem in the field, looking to build of the wins they had last week in Miami. Kasler and Pfeifler are currently ranked No. 23 in doubles in the nation by ITA and will face the team of Emily Zabor and Carmen Blanco in the first round.

Auburn will field two more doubles teams in the main doubles draw as Burgmans and Flickinger will be teamed up again for the second time this fall. The duo pulled in the three-seed for the tournament and will face Gabrielle Otero and Skyler Holloway for their first round matchup.

Each day’s play will start with doubles at 8 a.m. and singles will follow soon after. On the tournament’s final day, play will begin at 10 a.m. All matches will be played at either the Yarbrough Tennis Center or the Auburn University Intramural Courts.
