TUSCALOOSA, Ala. –Auburn women’s tennis is scheduled to compete in the USTA/ITA Southern Regional Championships beginning this Friday at the Alabama Tennis Stadium hosted by the University of Alabama.
“We are excited to be taking such a big group to the ITA championships this weekend,” Auburn women’s tennis head coach Lauren Longbotham Meisner said. “I’m looking forward to seeing our girls compete and I’m excited to see how much they have progressed in the last two weeks. Practice has been really good since our last trip to Tuscaloosa and I think we are primed for a good weekend.”
13 teams will participate in the USTA/ITA co-sponsored event this weekend, including Auburn and host Alabama. Other notable opponents include SEC members LSU, Ole Miss and Mississippi State.
Auburn’s entire roster is expected to compete in either the singles or doubles draw. Additionally, freshman Tiger Michala Kucharova will make her Auburn debut.
Going into this weekend the team is led by senior Paulina Schippers with a 7-2 record this fall. Junior Jackie Kasler and sophomore Jen Pfeifler lead Auburn’s doubles teams with a 6-1 mark.
Earlier this month the Tigers posted 15 wins at the Roberta Alison Classic in Tuscaloosa, with freshman Ashley Kitchen winning her draw with a trio of singles wins.
