The Auburn women's tennis team is set to host the USTA/ITA Southern Regional Championships beginning this Friday, Oct 16. Seventeen teams will be competing in the four-day event including SEC opponents Alabama, LSU, Ole Miss and Mississippi State.
"We are very excited to host the event and have our region's team on campus," head coach Lauren Longbotham Meisner said. "It should be a great weekend for tennis."
Senior Pleun Burgmans will look to build on her success from last year's ITA Regionals where she reached the finals. She picked up two wins against ranked opponents in the Riviera/ITA All-American last week.
Burgmans will be joined by fellow senior Paula de Man in the singles draw along with freshmen Caroline Turner, Sofia Blanno and Alannah Griffin. Junior Reka Muller and sophomore Andie Dikosavljevic will also compete in the singles draw for Auburn.
Auburn's No. 29 doubles pair of Burgmans and de Man team up again after picking up two wins to start the season at the Riviera. Burgmans has won two-straight ITA Regional doubles titles.
Griffin and Turner look to continue their strong start after their impressive showing at the Mercer Bear Gridiron Classic in which they won the B double's championship. Muller and Dikosavljevic will round out Auburn's doubles teams.
