AUBURN, Ala. - Auburn women's tennis is scheduled to compete in the USTA/ITA Southern Regional Championships beginning this Friday at the Alabama Tennis Stadium hosted by the University of Alabama.
"We're looking forward to the ITA Regional Championships. It's a good opportunity for us to see how we stack up against some of our regional opponents," head coach Lauren Longbotham Meisner said. "We swept both singles and doubles last year and we're looking to have the same type of results this weekend."
18 teams will take part in the four-day event including SEC foes LSU, Mississippi State, Ole Miss and host Alabama. Auburn's entire roster is expected to compete in either singles or doubles at the tournament.
Junior Pleun Burgmans is the tournament's top-seed in the singles draw and will begin play Friday at 3 p.m. after receiving a first-round bye. Seniors Emily Flickinger and Jen Pfeifler will compete for the Tigers in the singles draw along with junior Paula de Man and freshman Andie Dikosavlijevic.
Auburn's sixth-ranked doubles pair of Burgmans and Flickinger enter the competition fresh off a semifinal-run at the Rivera/ITA All-American Championships last weekend. Pfeifler and Reka Muller went 3-0 at the Miami Fall Invite to open the season.
