AUBURN, Ala. - Pleun Burgmans and Emily Flickinger will represent the Auburn women's tennis team at the Rivera/ITA All-American Championships in Pacific, Palisades, Calif., as main draw for both singles and doubles begins Thursday at the prestigious tournament.
Burgmans, ranked at No. 36, will appear in the main singles draw for the second straight season and the junior will team with Flickinger in the main draw for doubles as well.
The sixth-ranked pair began the 2014-15 season with a 2-1 start in doubles at the Miami Fall Invite, while Burgmans advanced to the semifinals in Auburn's first event of the year in singles.
"The Rivera/ITA All-American Championship is a really fun tournament at a great facility," head coach Lauren Longbotham Meisner said. "It's always good to play against good competition and we always tell the girls this is a great opportunity. When you get these type of chances you have to go out and play the best you can."
A year ago, Burgmans advanced to the second round in singles in her first appearance in the main draw at the Rivera/ITA All-American. Burgmans/Flickinger fell in the final round of qualifying doubles in 2013, denying the pair the opportunity to move on to the event's main draw, but in the long run helped fuel the Auburn tandem to a deep run at the NCAA Championships later in the season.
"This is Pleun and I's third year going to California to play with one another and we're very excited," Auburn senior Emily Flickinger said. "We've started in a different draw each year and there is always great competition out there."
Main draws will be released for singles and doubles late Wednesday. For all information about the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships, log on to ITATennis.com, or follow the official twitter page, @ITATennis.
