LAS VEGAS - Members of the Auburn women’s tennis team travels to its second tournament of the fall season to take part in the UNLV Women’s Tennis Fall Invitational at the Fertitta Tennis Complex this Friday through Sunday.
“I’m really pleased with how the team is coming along this fall, but this weekend is another big step,” Auburn women’s tennis head coach Lauren Longbotham Meisner said. “I’m looking forward to seeing how Pleun and Maria perform in their first collegiate matches. This is a good, solid tournament. We will see some teams we don’t normally compete against. This will also help prepare the girls for the upcoming All-American tournament and regionals.”
Other teams participating in the tournament along with Auburn and host UNLV will be Long Beach State, Texas Tech, South Alabama and Northern Arizona.
A pair of Tiger newcomers, Maria Cardenas Conti and Pleun Burgmans, are expected to compete, as well as seniors Plamena Kurteva and Paulina Schippers. Both Kurteva and Schippers started the season with a pair of wins at the home tournament two weeks ago.
The UNLV invitational features four flights of singles play and two flights of doubles action. Play begins at 12 p.m. CT each day.
