AUBURN, Ala. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association released its preseason singles and doubles rankings today and four members of Auburn women’s tennis found their names on the list as it is the first look into the 2013-14 NCAA college tennis season.

Sophomore Pleun Burgmans will go into the new year as Auburn’s highest ranked singles player at No. 18, while transfer Paula de Man is in the rankings also at No. 93.

Burgmans finished her freshman season as the No. 25 player in the country last year and was also the top-ranked individual in the region, claiming 22 wins and SEC Freshman of the Year honors. De Man went 23-1 a year ago in singles, finishing the campaign on a 16-match winning streak as Youngstown State's No. 1 player.

Over in doubles, junior Jen Pfeifler and senior Jackie Kasler will go into the fall as the Tigers’ highest ranked doubles team at No. 23 in the nation, followed by Burgmans and junior Emily Flickinger at No. 34.

Pfeifler and Kasler ended the 2012-13 season as the No. 40 team in the nation in doubles, winning 11 matches throughout the year. Burgmans and Flickinger went 6-2 together during the 2012 fall season claiming victory in their last four matches.

“It’s encouraging to have multiple players ranked in the preseason,” Auburn head coach Lauren Longbotham Meisner said. “However, we know the season is still very young and there is plenty of work to be put in, especially in the fall starting with the All-American tournament in California.”

The draws for the Riviera/ITA All-American Tournament were also revealed today with the preseason rankings. For the second-straight year, Auburn will have at least one representative in the singles field as Burgmans will be in the main draw as one of four players from the Southeastern Conference. Last year, Pfeifler was the first AU player to make the main draw since the 2008 season.

Flickinger and sophomore Michala Kucharova made the alternate list for the singles draw in the event players in the main draw are not able to compete.

On the doubles side, Pfeifler and Kasler will take their newest ranking and look to advance through the qualifying portion of the doubles tournament in hopes of reaching the main draw to give the Tigers a presence in both championship fields.

The tandem of Burgmans and Flickinger are part of the alternate doubles list as well and will play in the pre-qualifying tournament as one of the first matches to kick off the All-American event.

“We’re excited to be part of such a prestigious event as the Riviera/ITA All-American,” Longbotham Meisner said. “This is a tournament where the best in the country come to play every year and we’re glad that we’ve gotten to be a part of it for the last two years and hope that continues in the future.”

The Riviera/ITA All-American Championship will be Auburn’s first fall tournament of 2013 and will begin on Sept. 28, running through Oct. 6. In Los Angeles, Calif.
