Women's Tennis Begins 2012 Campaign with Home Tournament

AUBURN – Auburn women’s tennis opens its 2012 fall schedule on Friday with the Auburn Fall Invitational featuring 10 teams and more than 70 players at the Yarbrough Tennis Center.

Participating in the tournament will be Mississippi State, Tulane, Northwestern State, Lamar, Houston, Georgia Southern, UT Chattanooga, Kennesaw State and Louisiana-Lafayette.

The Tigers return two seniors from last year’s squad in Plamena Kurteva and Paulina Schippers. Kurteva finished her junior season with a singles record of 15-18 while playing primarily in the No. 3 position. In doubles, the Bulgaria native finished 11-15, competing with Emily Flickinger, Olivia Bennett and Schippers.

Schippers capped off the season with a 6-12 singles record and finished 7-13 in doubles.

On Friday, there will be two rounds of singles and one round of doubles, then one singles and two doubles on Saturday. Play begins at 9 a.m. both days.
