BERKELEY, Calif. - 25th-ranked Auburn women's tennis opens the 2013 NCAA Women's Tennis Championship with St. Mary's on Friday at 12 p.m. CT the Hellman Tennis Complex.
The Tigers (18-8) are making their first NCAA appearance since 2009 and the seventh all-time. Joining Auburn and St. Mary's at the Berkeley Regional are the host No. 7 Bears and Stony Brook.
Auburn has never faced any of the three teams in Berkeley.
With 18 wins this season, the Tigers have recorded the most wins since 1989 and fourth-most in program history. Freshman Pleun Burgmans (21-6, 15-3 dual) was named SEC Freshman of the Year and first team All-SEC, the first Auburn freshman to receive either honor.
The winner of Auburn-St. Mary's advances to face the winner of Cal-Stony Brook on Saturday at 2 p.m. CT. with a berth in the Sweet 16 on the line.
