INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.- The NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Subcommittee has selected Auburn senior Fani Chifchieva as one of the 64 singles players that will compete in the 2010 NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Singles Championships.
"This is Fani's fourth-straight NCAA Tournament and I'm really happy that she has a chance to finish her stellar Auburn career in this fashion," said head coach Tim Gray. "She has worked extremely hard this spring to get here and I feel she is a contender to win it all."
The Plovdiv, Bulgaria native was recently named to the All-SEC Team for the fourth time of her career on April 29, and is a three-time All-American. On the year, she holds a 13-6 singles record and is 3-4 against nationally-ranked opponents.
In her four seasons on The Plains, the senior ranks third in singles victories with 103 and in combined victories with 165. Previously, she was named SEC Women's Tennis Player of the Year in 2008 and 2007 ITA South Region Freshman of the Year in 2007. In her career, she is 24-17 against nationally-ranked players, and is 33-11 against SEC competition.
The singles and doubles competition will be conducted May 26-31 at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Georgia, following the conclusion of the team championship (May 20-25). The University of Georgia will serve as host.
All matches shall be the best of three sets. Regular scoring and a 12-point tiebreaker at six games all will be used for all matches.
