AUBURN, Ala. – The Auburn women’s tennis team earned its second straight appearance to the NCAA Championships and will begin play versus Winthrop in its first-round matchup at the Clemson Regional on Friday, May 9.
“We’re excited to return to the NCAA Championships for the second straight year and we’ll be prepared to take on Winthrop when we open up the tournament,” Auburn head coach Lauren Longbotham Meisner said. “I think we are in a good spot heading into the postseason and it will be an extraordinary opportunity for team and our program to play once again in the NCAA Tournament.”
The Tigers (16-10) will be playing in the NCAA Championships for the eighth time in program history after advancing to the second round in the 2013. Auburn defeated St. Mary’s, 4-2, in the opening round of action a year ago, before falling to No. 8 California in Berkley, Calif.
Auburn will open up against Winthrop on Friday, May 9 at 11 a.m. ET at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center in Clemson, S.C. It will be the first-ever meeting between the two teams. The winner will take on the nation’s No. 12 overall seed Clemson or UNC-Wilmington on Saturday, May 10.
Georgia will host the team championships, as well as the individual championships at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga., which run May 15-26. The draw for the individual championships will be released on Wednesday.
