AUBURN- The Auburn women's tennis team was awarded a pair of prestigious Tiger Torch awards Monday night, as the team took home both the highest team grade point average award with a 3.24 cumulative GPA, as well as the CHAMPS/Life Skills Community Service Award.
The Tigers were led by four student-athletes who carry at least a 3.5 GPA. Jil Hastenrath led the way with a perfect 4.0 in Auburn's business administration Masters program. Fellow senior Heather Bybee followed with a 3.95 GPA in industrial design, while freshman Paulina Schippers (3.75, business), and sophomore Daniela Vukadinovic (3.57, industrial design), round out the top-four.
"Our student-athletes are very well rounded," said head coach Tim Gray. "I'm extremely proud of how hard they work off the court as well. These women embody the idea of student-athlete."
Seven of the nine members of the squad were also honored as Top Tigers, awards that go to student-athletes that hold a 3.0 GPA average for the last academic year and for their careers.
Additionally, the team shared the CHAMPS/Life Skills Community Service Award for the teams that had the best record of community service with the football team.
