OXFORD, Miss. – No. 69 Auburn women’s tennis opens the 2012 SEC Women’s Tennis championship on Thursday at 6 p.m. against No. 20 Tennessee.

“We are excited to be heading to Oxford for the SEC championship,” Auburn head coach Lauren Longbotham Meisner said. “The team is playing really well right now and we really confident heading into the tournament. The girls are excited to get another chance at Tennessee after a disappointing match two weeks ago. They know they didn’t bring their best energy and are anxious for another chance against a good team.”

Auburn (8-12) fell to the Lady Vols 4-3 on April 6 in Knoxville despite a default at No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles and a Jackie Kasler win for the Tigers by retirement at No. 4 singles. The Lady Vols are coming off a 7-0 forfeit at Georgia due to injury and illness.

The Tigers are led by a pair of sophomores in Olivia Bennett and Jackie Kasler. Bennett holds a 10-3 mark in dual matches, while Kasler is 12-8.

Last season, Auburn fell 4-0 to Arkansas in the first round of the tournament. The Tigers are 6-30 all-time against Tennessee.
