AUBURN, Ala. -- Georgina Axon, a top British women’s tennis player, has signed to play for Auburn women’s tennis, head coach Lauren Spencer announced Friday.
“We are extremely excited to welcome Georgina to the Auburn Family,” Spencer said. “We know that she is going to make an immediate impact on our team next season.”
Ranked No. 104 in the ITF and No. 10 in the European rankings, Axon has won four ITF singles titles and seven doubles titles. She has competed in multiple Great Britain Summer and Winter Cups, including a silver medal at the Winter Cup.
“Being one of the top British juniors she has a great deal of international tournament experience that has allowed her to mature quickly and gain the experience she needs to be successful in the SEC,” Spencer said. “Physically she is a strong, powerful player.”
On top of competing on the Junior ITF Tour, Axon also qualified for the World Junior Tennnis Tournament and the Junior Fed Cup. She’s reached the final 16 in the Junior Europeans and competed in the Junior Wimbledon in doubles.
She joins Taylor Russo of Deerfield Beach, Fla. and Roos Van der Zwaan, who signed with Auburn in the fall.
