AUBURN, Ala. - No. 44 Auburn women’s tennis opens the SEC Tournament on Wednesday against Tennessee at the Carolina Tennis Center in Columbia, S.C.
Auburn (15-12, 3-10 SEC) enter the conference tournament as the No. 12 seed. The Tigers defeated the Lady Vols (11-14, 3-10 SEC), 4-0, in their previous meeting this season on March 6 at the Yarbrough Tennis Center.
The Tigers have won two out of the last three meetings against the Lady Vols. Auburn is 1-3 all-time against Tennessee at the SEC Tournament with the Lady Vols picking up a 4-2 win in the last meeting between the two teams in the postseason.
Auburn's Pleun Burgmans and Emily Flickinger enter the postseason ranked sixth in doubles in the latest ITA release. The pair is 23-10 overall this season and 12-7 in dual matches. Burgmans has 26 doubles victories this season, just three shy of tying the school’s single-season record.
Andie Dikosavljevic paces the Tigers in singles with a 19-12 overall record this season. The freshman also leads the team with 14 wins in dual matches in 2015. Burgmans enters the SEC Tournament as Auburn’s top-ranked player ranked by the ITA at No. 66.
Jen Pfeifler was honored by the SEC prior to the start of the conference tournament. The senior was selected to the 2015 SEC Community Service Team for the second straight season. Pfeifler has played an integral role on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and has volunteered with Auburn’s End Child Hunger Initiative.
The winner of the Auburn/Tennessee match will take on No. 5 seed Alabama Thursday in the quarterfinals at 9 a.m. CT. Live stats for Wednesday’s match can be found on AuburnTigers.com.
