Women's Tennis Heads To Mississippi For Pair Of Matches

April 7, 2011

AUBURN - The Auburn Women's Tennis team (4-15, 0-8 SEC) will hit the road this weekend to face off against No. 34 Ole Miss and Mississippi State. The Tigers will take on the Bulldogs at 3 p.m., Friday and the Rebels at 1 p.m., Sunday.

"These are two very important matches for us," said Auburn head coach Tim Gray. "Unfortunately, we have been devastated by injuries this season. We simply need to find a way to win in spite of the adversities we've had."

Mississippi State is winless in its last nine matches, making the Bulldogs 2-12 on the season and 0-8 in the SEC. The Bulldogs will be looking for three freshmen in Alexandra Perper (5-7, 2-4 SEC), Vivian Pietraroria (3-9, 0-6 SEC) and Roseline Dion (2-9, 0-4 SEC) to continue to develop and get key wins for the team, as they make up half the starting line-up. A lot of pressure will be placed on Perper as the freshman has been playing at the No. 1 spot since the beginning of the season.

The Rebels are currently 9-8 on the season and 2-7 in SEC play. Ole Miss is currently on a two-match losing streak as it hosts Alabama and Auburn this weekend. The Rebels will be fielding the No. 23 doubles team of Kristi Boxx and Abby Guthrie. Boxx is also a ranked singles player, currently at No. 22, along with Conner Vogel at No. 122.

Last weekend, Auburn faced off against No. 53 LSU and No. 15 Arkansas in the last home matches of the season. On Friday, Auburn fell to LSU 5-2, coming away with the doubles point and a Paulina Schippers upset over No. 66 Whitney Wolf, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. On Sunday, Auburn lost to Arkansas 6-1, with Sophomore Plamena Kurteva coming away with the only win from the match for the Tigers.
