The No. 36 Auburn Tigers women's tennis team (9-7, 3-5 SEC) returns home for a pair of SEC matches as they take on Arkansas (9-9, 2-6 SEC) and No. 39 LSU (10-7, 3-5 SEC). The Tigers will take on the Razorbacks on Friday at 2 p.m. and the Tigers at 12:30 on Sunday at the Auburn University Intramural Courts.
"This is going to be a battle for the SEC West," head coach Tim Gray said. "We need to be playing our best tennis at this time of the season, and I am confident that we will be ready."
Auburn's ranking moved up one spot to 36th this week, after dropping a pair of matches to South Carolina and Florida. Freshman Fani Chifchieva is ranked 27th in singles with a 12-4 record, and has , while sophomore Alex Haney has been having an outstanding spring, reeling in a 14-2 recordby winning 10 of her last 11.
The doubles tandem of Haney and Melissa Koning have also found themselves in the rankings, coming in at No. 14 with a mark of 12-4. The duo has won five of their last six.
Haney and Koning will have tough competition this weekend as they face the 30th ranked team of Megan Flcon and Hannah Robinson of LSU. Falcon is also ranked No. 3 in the country in singles, as she will likely face Chifchieva on Sunday.
