AUBURN – No. 18 Auburn’s women’s tennis hits the road to continue SEC play against host No. 49 South Carolina Friday, March 22 at 4 p.m. CT at the Carolina Tennis Center and No. 2 Florida Sunday, March 24 at 1 p.m. ET at the Linder Stadium at the Ring Tennis Complex.
The Tigers (14-2, 4-1 SEC) are eager to return to form after a heartbreaking 4-3 loss to rival Alabama last weekend.
Leading the way for Auburn is ITA No. 51 freshman Pleun Burgmans. She holds a 16-4 overall record and is 5-0 in SEC play competing exclusively at the top spot in the lineup.
Burgmans is 4-2 against nationally ranked opponents.
In doubles, the tandem of Burgmans and Kurteva ranks No. 54 and is coming off a huge win over Alabama’s 6th-ranked pair of Alexa Guarachi and Mary Anne Macfarlane. The duo is 3-1 in SEC play with a 6-1 record in dual matches.
32nd-ranked South Carolina is hoping to bounce back as well after losing 7-0 to No. 12 Georgia last weekend. The Gamecocks fell to 8-7 and 1-4 in the SEC with the loss.
South Carolina has two players ranked nationally: Jaklin Alawi is ranked No. 78 and Katerina Popova is ranked No. 102.
ITA No. 2 Florida (11-2, 4-1 SEC) have the No. 1 ranked player in the country in Lauren Embree.
Also ranked in singles for Florida are No. 14 Sofie Oyen, No. 55 Alex Cercone, No. 89 Danielle Collins and No. 96 Brianna Morgan.
On the doubles side, Florida has two ranked teams in No. 23 Embree and Oyen and No. 62 Embree and Collins.
The Gators take on Alabama Friday.
