AUBURN – The No. 75 Auburn women’s tennis team will head to No. 34 Arkansas and LSU this weekend for its first two conference games on the road.
“The team is pumped up to go on the road again,” head coach Lauren Longbotham Meisner said. “Both Arkansas and LSU are two highly ranked teams, but I liked how we practiced this week, and the team is very focused. If we can bring the things we worked on all week to the courts, we have a chance to have a really successful weekend.”
Auburn (6-4) finished the first weekend of conference play 1-1 after splitting matches against Ole Miss and Mississippi State. After suffering a 7-0 loss to Ole Miss on Friday, the Tigers bounced back with a 4-3 win over the Bulldogs on Sunday.
After earning the doubles point on Sunday, Auburn’s Olivia Bennett, who is ranked 125th in the country, notched another point by topping Petra Ferancova, 6-1, 6-1. Jen Pfeifler picked up a victory on court one and the Tigers clinched the match after Jackie Kasler’s 6-1, 6-3, win at No. 4.
Arkansas is currently ranked 34th in the nation after a 1-1 opening weekend of conference play. The Razorbacks fell at Vanderbilt 7-0, before defeating Kentucky 4-3. Arkansas is led by Claudine Paulson who is 14-9 on the year.
LSU also finished the weekend 1-1 after edging out Kentucky, 4-3, and dropping to Vanderbilt, 7-0. The Tigers are led by Olivia Howlett who is 6-2 in the dual season competiting at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots.
