AUBURN – No. 14 Auburn women’s tennis hosts No. 71 LSU Friday, March 8 at 3 p.m. CT and No. 43 Arkansas Sunday, March 10 at 1 p.m. CT at the Yarbrough Tennis Center.
The ITA No. 14 ranked Tigers are 12-1 (2-0 SEC) and hoping to continue a program record 12-match win streak after earning a pair of victories last weekend on the road over Mississippi State 5-1, and then-ITA No. 42 Ole Miss, 4-3.
The rank of 14th is the highest ranking for a Coach Lauren Longbotham Meisner led team. She finished at No. 16 in 2011 at SMU.
The streak marks the first time Auburn is 2-0 in SEC play since beginning the 1993 season 6-0.
Freshman ITA No. 70 Pleun Burgmans is 13-4 (2-0 SEC) with three wins over ranked opponents all while playing at the No. 1 position. The pair of sophomore Jen Pfeifler and junior Jackie Kasler are No. 33 in the latest ITA doubles rankings, and are 11-2 on the season.
LSU stands at 7-5 (0-2 SEC) and is coming off a 4-3 loss to the No. 44 Kentucky Wildcats. LSU’s doubles duo of Mary Jeremiah and Ariel Morton hold a 7-1 overall record at the top spot.
Auburn is 9-21 all-time against the Tigers.
Arkansas is 6-6 (1-1 SEC) and coming off a 4-3 loss to No. 11 Vanderbilt. The Razorbacks’ Claudine Paulson leads the team with a 10-2 overall record in singles and 7-4 in doubles.
SEC Freshman of the Week Yang Pang 11-9 (2-0 SEC) is continuing her strong rookie season for Arkansas. Pang has been playing the entire season at the top spot, and has three wins over ranked opponents.
The Tigers are 18-16 all-time against Arkansas. The Razorbacks travel to face Alabama on Friday at 3 p.m. CT.
