Starting the spring season ranked at No.75, the Auburn women's tennis team has made steady progress since. The Tigers are currently ranked No. 62 according to the FILA Collegiate Tennis rankings announced Tuesday.
"These are great accomplishments and more signs that we are definitely heading in the right direction as a team," Auburn head coach Tim Gray said.
After an impressive win against Vanderbilt's No.35 Amanda Fish on Sunday, redshirt freshman Fani Chifchieva's ranking jumped 22 spots to No. 39. The Plovdiv, Bulgaria native holds a 7-2 record in the No.1 position in singles. Sophomore Alex Haney and freshman Melissa Koning are holding their own in doubles play, ranked No.20 in the nation. Haney and Koning added two notable wins to their record this weekend, beating the No.2 ranked Joelle Schwenk and Kim Coventry of the Kentucky Wildcats and the No.19 ranked Amanda Fish and Amanda Taylor of the Vanderbilt Commodores.
The Tigers will continue in SEC play this weekend as they travel to Mississippi to take on the Mississippi State Bulldogs on Friday and the Ole Miss Rebels on Sunday.
