AUBURN - Coming off a strong showing at the Blue-Gray Tennis Classic where it defeated No. 57 SMU and narrowly lost 4-3 to newly ranked Oklahoma State, Auburn Women's Tennis appears in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings at No. 66.
"I am proud of the team's effort so far," Auburn head coach Lauren Longbotham Meisner said. "Our goal is to be nationally ranked and now that we are there, we want to continue to get better every day and climb in the rankings. It is an exciting time to be a part of this program."
The Tigers are ranked for the first time since last February when they appeared at No. 64.
Sophomore Olivia Bennett also appears in the latest ITA Individual rankings debuting at No. 125. The native of St. Augustine, Trinidad, carries a ranking for the first time in her young career. She is 5-0 on the spring season with wins at the Nos. 5 and 6 positions. Bennett is the first ranked Auburn singles player since All-American Fani Chifchieva finished the 2010 season ranked No. 31.
The team returns to action on Friday when they open SEC play against Ole Miss at 2 p.m. at the Yarbrough Tennis Complex in Auburn.
