AUBURN, Ala. - The Auburn women's tennis team kicks off its home slate Saturday, Feb. 19, as the Tigers host Alabama A&M and Memphis at the Yarbrough Tennis Center. Auburn opens with a 10 a.m. match against Alabama A&M and follow with a 3 p.m. match against Memphis.
"We're excited to finally play at home this spring," head coach Tim Gray said. "We're looking forward to a pair of tough matches and hope that what we've been working in practice shows in our performance."
The 63rd-ranked Tigers face Alabama A&M for the third time in the program's history. Last time Auburn took on the Bulldogs was last season and the Tigers came away with a 7-0 victory. Saturday will be the sixth time the Tigers have met the Memphis Tigers in match play. Auburn holds a 5-0 mark in the series over Memphis
Last season, Alabama A&M qualified for the SWAC Tournament in Alexandria, La., and advanced to the semifinals before falling to Jackson State.
Memphis is currently 3-4 on the year after losing matches at Indiana, Feb. 5, and No.36 Princeton, Feb. 6. The Tigers have recorded wins over Tennessee-Martin, Troy and Lipscomb. They are led by sophomore Courtney Collins, who is ranked at the No. 107 singles player. She has posted a 4-3 overall mark.
Last Time Out
The Tigers return home with a pair of losses at No. 16 Florida State and No. 13 Georgia Tech. Auburn pushed then-No. 15 Florida State, earning one singles with and one doubles win but fell 6-1 on Friday, Feb. 11. Auburn dropped another decision 7-0 to Georgia Tech Sunday.
Auburn will travel to Montgomery, Ala., to participate in the Blue/Gray Invitational on Friday, Feb. 25-Feb. 27, and then return home to face the University of Georgia on March 4 and Tennessee March 6.
