AUBURN – Auburn women’s tennis hosts ITA No. 62 Georgia State at 12 p.m. CT. and Samford at 6 p.m. CT. on Saturday at the Yarbrough Tennis Center.
“Saturday’s matches will be a tough test for our team,” Auburn women’s tennis head coach Lauren Longbotham Meisner said. “We are looking forward to the challenge of playing two matches again and also facing a ranked opponent for the third time this season.”
Auburn is coming off a great weekend where they swept both Georgia Southern and Alabama A&M 7-0 at home to move to 3-1 for the season. Maria Cardenas Conti, Plamena Kurteva and Ashley Kitchen each picked up two singles wins and two doubles wins for a perfect 4-0 weekend.
The duo of Jackie Kasler and Emily Flickinger continued their spring success with an 8-2 win over Georgia Southern to move to a team-high 3-0 doubles dual match record for the season.
Georgia State finished out the 2012 season with an 11-7 overall record, 1-2 in conference matches and 3-5 against nationally ranked opponents. The Panthers are currently 2-2 and coming off a painfully close 4-3 loss to 31st-ranked Illinois. Auburn is 5-0 all-time against Georgia State.
Samford ended the 2012 season with a 15-6 overall record. The Bulldogs are currently 3-0 and coming off a nonconference doubleheader sweep of Kennesaw State, 6-1, and Mercer, 7-0. Auburn is 8-0 all-time against the Bulldogs.
