AUBURN, Ala. - The No. 21 Auburn women's tennis team returns home after the opening weekend of play at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend, beginning its 2014 home slate with a single match against Troy at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the City of Auburn/Auburn University Yarbrough Tennis Center.
The Tigers were originally scheduled to face Alabama A&M at 11 a.m., but that match has been postponed until a later date.
The 21st-ranked Tigers (1-1) split a pair of matches during their first action of the dual match season at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend in Austin, Texas. Auburn dropped its opening match against No. 17 Texas 4-1, before rebounding against No. 24 Florida State 4-1 to wrap up play.
Senior Jackie Kasler clinched the match for Auburn against the Seminoles, winning a thrilling third-set tiebreaker to capture the Tigers' first win. Auburn continued to get solid doubles play from the pair of sophomore Michala Kucharova and Reka Muller, who picked up the clinching match to secure the doubles point in each of the Tigers' two matches last weekend.
Kasler’s win last Sunday moved the Gulf Breeze, Fla., native into a tie for fifth in school history with a 127 victories, while the senior also is tied for seventh with 63 singles wins in her career.
Muller moved her team-leading record to 13-5 last weekend as the freshman picked up a 6-2, 6-2 win to get off the court first in Auburn's victory over Florida State. Kucharova also provided the Tigers with a 6-2, 6-3 victory at the No. 5 spot to allow Kasler to clinch the match.
Auburn leads the all-time series versus Troy 12-1. The Tigers swept the Trojans a year ago, winning 7-0.
Saturday's meeting against Troy begins a three-match homestand for the Auburn women over the next nine days. Auburn also hosts Georgia Southern and Samford on Sunday, Feb. 9 at the Yarbrough Tennis Center.
