AUBURN – Auburn women’s tennis opens its schedule of dual matches this weekend with a trip to Troy on Saturday and a double-header with Alabama A&M and Southern Miss on Sunday at the Yarbrough Tennis Center.
“I am really excited to start the dual match season,” Auburn head coach Lauren Longbotham Meisner said. “The team has been practicing hard and this should be a good test for us. We also hope for a good crowd on Sunday, and are really looking forward to a solid start to the season.”
On Friday, Auburn will take on a Troy team that is coming off a 7-0 loss to top-ranked Florida on Wednesday in Gainesville. Auburn defeated the Trojans 6-1 a season ago.
Sunday’s action will be the first home competition for Auburn in 2012 and the first match on home turf for new head coach Longbotham Meisner.
Alabama A&M picked up a dual-meet win over NCAA Division II UAH, 5-4, on Tuesday. Sunday’s afternoon meet will be the first competition of the season for Southern Miss.
Sunday’s home-opening play begins at 10 a.m. against Alabama A&M and continues with Southern Miss at 2 p.m. Saturday’s match at Troy is scheduled for 12 p.m.
