AUBURN, Ala. – Auburn women’s tennis will host the first two rounds of the ninth-annual ITA Kickoff Weekend, which is set to take place on Saturday and Sunday at Yarbrough Tennis Center. The Tigers will take on Fresno State on Saturday at 12 p.m. CT and then square off with No. 18 USC or Rice on Sunday.
Last weekend, No. 15 Auburn (3-0) opened up the 2017 season with three wins over Samford, Louisiana-Monroe and Georgia State. No. 13 Alizee Michaud went 3-0 in singles, while picking up two wins in doubles. The junior stands at 13-3 in singles for the season.
Freshman Georgie Axon will look to continue her strong start to the 2017 dual-match season after opening up with three-straight singles wins. The U.K. native is second on the team with 12 wins on the year.
Fresno State comes into the matchup with a 1-0 record. The Bulldogs finished the 2016 season 19-9 and ranked No. 43 in the final Oracle/ITA polls.
In last year’s ITA Kickoff, the Tigers defeated Michigan State 4-0 in the opening round, but came up just short against Miami (Fla.), falling 4-2.
The team that wins both matches on the weekend will qualify for the 2017 ITA National Women's Team Indoor Championships, hosted by Yale University in New Haven, Conn., from Feb. 10-13.
Both matches on Saturday begin at 12 p.m. CT and admission is free. The consolation match on Sunday will begin at 10 a.m., while the championship match is set to begin at 1 p.m.
