AUBURN, Ala. - The No. 28 Auburn women’s tennis team heads to Athens, Ga., for the two-day ITA Kick-Off Weekend at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
The ITA Kick-Off Weekend features 15 host sites with four teams at each location vying to advance to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships in Charlottesville, Va., Feb. 6-9.
Auburn (2-0) will be joined by host No. 10 Georgia, No. 62 Wake Forest and No. 71 Samford at the event. The Tigers open the tournament against Wake Forest at 8 a.m. CT Saturday.
The winner of the match will take on either Georgia or Samford Sunday in the championship match at 4 p.m. CT. The losers of both matches will play in the consolation final at 8 a.m. CT Sunday morning.
The Tigers opened up the 2015 season with a doubleheader sweep of Middle Tennessee and Alabama A&M on Jan. 17. Paula de Man led the Tigers with an undefeated weekend, picking up a pair of singles and doubles victories.
Pleun Burgmans and Emily Flickinger continue to sit at No. 3 in the ITA’s latest doubles rankings. The pair leads the team with 12 doubles wins this season. Reka Muller and Jen Pfefiler have also provided the Tigers with a formidable doubles pair, boasting a 6-1 overall record when paired with one another.
Burgmans leads the Tigers with an 8-4 overall record in singles and is ranked at No. 36 in the first ITA release of the year.
Saturday’s match marks the first-ever meet between Auburn and Wake Forest. Georgia leads the all-time series 50-6 over the Tigers, while Auburn is a perfect 10-0 against Samford.
