AUBURN, Ala. - The No. 35 Auburn women's tennis team is ranked No. 4 in the SEC Western Division Preseason poll, the SEC announced Friday.

Ole Miss tops the Western Division poll with 66 points, followed by Alabama with 62 and Arkansas with 50 points. Auburn holds down the fourth spot with 32 points, followed by the LSU Tigers with 29 points and Mississippi State with 12. All five teams with the exception of Mississippi State rank in the ITA National top 35.

Florida, who led the Eastern Division with 71 points, is the overwhelming favorite to win the regular season championship, after hauling in 11 first-place votes.

The Tigers open up SEC play on March 5, traveling to Tennessee and then Georgia on March 7. Auburn will host Florida (March 12), South Carolina (March 14) before heading to the SEC/Big Ten Fling in Orlando March 16-18. SEC play will close out on April 17, as Auburn hosts Alabama from City of Auburn/Yarborough Tennis Center.

Auburn returns six letterwinners from a year ago, highlighted by three-time All-American senior Fani Chifchieva. Seniors Myrthe Molenveld, Heather Bybee and Jil Hastenrath also return for their senior seasons on The Plains, giving the Tigers a quartet of seniors.

Auburn is set to open up the 2010 spring season this weekend, hosting Kennesaw St. on Saturday and No. 10 Georgia Tech on Sunday from City of Auburn/Yarborough Tennis Center.
