AUBURN, Ala. -- Auburn women's tennis will head to Miami for the two-day ITA Kick-Off Weekend beginning Friday, Jan. 22.
"We are excited to go to Miami for the ITA Kick-Off and compete with four nationally ranked teams," said Auburn head women's tennis coach Lauren Spencer. "Michigan State is a team we haven't seen before, but we know they are a tough team and look forward to competing against them. We will look to carry over the success we had against UAB last weekend and hopefully advance to the National Women's Team Indoor Championship in February."
The ITA Kick-Off Weekend features 15 host sites with four teams at each location vying to advance to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships in Madison, Wis., Feb. 5-8.
Auburn (1-0) will be joined by host No. 12 Miami, Michigan State and Middle Tennessee State at the event. The Tigers open the tournament against Michigan State at 1 p.m. CT Friday.
The winner of the match will take on either Miami or MTSU Saturday in the championship match. The losers of both matches will play in the consolation final.
Senior duo Pleun Burgmans and Paula de Man sit at No. 30 in the ITA's latest doubles rankings. The pair won their first match against UAB, 6-3. Burgmans will also lead the way in the singles lineup at the No. 1 spot for Auburn.
No. 30 Andie Dikosavljevic will play in the No. 2 spot for the Tigers after winning her first match of the season, 6-4, 6-1.
Freshmen Alannah Griffin and Caroline Turner have picked up 10 wins in doubles this season while Alizee Michaud and Reka Muller will team up again after a dominant 6-0 win against UAB.
Auburn will return home to host Samford on January 30. The Tigers will host Tennessee-Martin and Troy on February 6.
