Auburn women’s tennis will play its first match of the 2016 spring season when it hosts UAB on Saturday at the Yarbrough Tennis Center.
Auburn is returning five players from a 2015 team that reached the NCAA tournament for the third straight season.
Seniors Pleun Burgmans and Paula de Man, recently named team captains, come into the spring ranked No. 30 in the ITA doubles poll. The duo participated in the Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American in the fall and picked up an opening round win against a ranked opponent.
After an impressive run to win the USTA/ITA Southern Region and advancing to the National Indoor Intercollegiate Championship, sophomore Andie Dikosavljevic comes into the season ranked No. 30 in the preseason ITA release. Dikosavljevic finished last season with a 20-14 record.
Newcomer Alizee Michaud will also look to make an impact this season. As a freshman at Stetson, she finished with a 15-0 record in the No. 1 spot and participated in the NCAA Singles Championships. She was also named the Atlantic Sun Conference Women’s Tennis Freshman of the Year and Player of the Year.
Auburn comes into the matchup with a 26-2 series lead against UAB. The match will begin at 12 p.m. Admission is free.
