AUBURN –Auburn women’s tennis features two doubles teams ranked in the Top 30 of the preseason ITA Rankings, the ITA announced on Thursday.
Senior Plamena Kurteva and freshman Pleun Burgmans appear at No. 24, while sophomores Jen Pfeifler and junior Jackie Kasler are ranked No. 28.
“I am really pleased with how the whole team played in the fall,” head coach Lauren Longbotham Meisner said. “It is really great for these girls to be rewarded with a ranking going into the spring. I place a big emphasis on doubles play, so it is exciting to see our team gain early recognition. There is still a lot of work to be done, but we are excited to get the spring season started next week.”
Kurteva and Burgmans finished the fall season with a 3-0 record, capped off with a tournament victory at the UNLV Fall Invitational. The duo defeated Texas Tech’s Rashmi Teltumbde and Nikki Sanders 8-4 to win their flight.
Pfeifler and Kasler recorded a team-best 10-2 doubles record in the fall. The Gulf Breeze, Fla., natives won their first six matches of the year and became the first Auburn duo to advance to the qualifying round of the Riviera/ITA Women’s All-American Championship since 2008. Pfeifler and Kasler also won the doubles title at the Auburn Invite.
Auburn, which will begin its spring season January 18 at the Waco Invitational hosted by Baylor, is ranked 69th in the team rankings.
