For the first time since the 2004 season, the Auburn women's tennis team has earned a national ranking. The Tigers are ranked No. 75 according to the FILA Collegiate Tennis rankings announced Tuesday. Auburn was last ranked No. 61 in the 2004 preseason poll.
Redshirt freshman Fani Chifchieva also earned national recognition after being ranked No. 84 in singles. This past fall, the Plovdiv, Bulgaria native went 8-6 and made a name for herself at the Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships, where she went 4-1 and advanced to the round of 32. Chifchieva is ranked No. 16 in the region, while also teaming with sophomore Alex Haney for a No. 13 regional ranking in doubles.
The Tigers will begin spring action on Jan. 19-21 at the FIU Spring Invitational in Miami, Fla.
