FLUSHING MEADOWS, N.Y. -
Pleun Burgmans and Emily Flickinger’s run at the USTA/ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships ended in the final round Sunday as the Auburn women’s tennis doubles duo fell 6-2, 6-3 to UCLA’s Catherine Harrison and Kyle Phillips.

Auburn’s sixth-ranked tandem was vying to become the first doubles team in school history to win a title at the prestigious fall tournament. Burgmans and Flickinger’s run to the final round already marked the deepest an Auburn singles or doubles duo has ever advanced at National Indoors.

“It was another excellent tournament for Pleun and Emily,” head coach Lauren Longbotham Meisner said. “They played tough all week against the nation’s very best competition. Although we came up short, we are learning from these experiences and will use this and our offseason to continue to grow as a team in hopes of a achieving our goal of a national championship.”

The sixth-ranked pair finishes the fall season with an 11-3 record and also with a pair of runner-up finishes in two of the nation’s most highly-regarded fall events. Burgmans and Flickinger finished as the runner-up at the Rivera/ITA All-American and recently won their second-straight ITA Southern Regional doubles title on Oct. 13.
