FLUSHING MEADOWS, N.Y. - The Auburn women’s tennis doubles duo of Pleun Burgmans and Emily Flickinger continues to make history as the sixth-ranked pair punched their ticket to the finals at the USTA/ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships on Saturday at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
Burgmans/Flickinger topped Oklahoma State’s Viktoriya Lushkova and Kelsey Laurente, 6-3, 6-3 in Saturday’s semifinal match to earn the first-ever berth in school history in the National Indoor final. The Auburn pair will take on the No. 4-ranked duo of Catherine Harrison and Kyle Phillips in Sunday’s championship match.
The Tigers’ duo is a team-best 11-2 in doubles this season. Burgmans/Flickinger received a first-round bye to begin play at the prestigious fall tournament and used a hard-fought, three-set win on Friday in the quarterfinals to stay alive.
