Women's Tennis Concludes Play At Seminole Quad Tournament

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Auburn women's tennis team concluded play at the Seminole Quad Tournament Sunday. The Tigers won five matches on their final day at the Scott Speicher Tennis Center in Tallahassee, Fla.

In singles play, Caroline Thornton defeated South Florida's Lauren Schumate, 7-6, 6-1, and Olivia Bennett beat Rocio Lopez from Georgia Tech's in two sets 6-4, 6-3.

In the red bracket, Paulina Schippers, Maria Archevaleta and Plamena Kurteva ended the day with wins. Schippers defeated Ole Miss' Gabby Rangel (6-4,6-4), Archavaleta beat Florida State's Manon Veldman (6-3, 6-4) while Kuteva downed South Florida's Kate Parker (6-0, 6-4).

Jackie Kasler and Schippers paired up for the double gold bracket championship match, but fell to South Florida duo Janette Bejikova and Loreto Alonso, 9-7. Thornton and Emily Newton battled in the third-place match, and fell to a Georgia Tech twosome, Lynn Blau and Elizabeth Kilborn, 8-6.

The Tigers return to action Oct. 22 at the ITA Southern Regional Tournament in Birmingham, Ala.
