Chifchieva Places Second at Rivera/ITA Women's All-American Championships

PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. - Ninth-ranked Fani Chifchieva finished as the Rivera/ITA Women's All-American Championships runner-up, suffering a 6-3, 6-4 setback at the hands of No. 20 Kelcy McKenna of Arizona State Sunday at the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif.

"It was an excellent tournament for Fani and a great learning experience," head women's tennis coach Tim Gray said. "She will take a lot of positives away from this event."

Chifchieva finished the tournament with a record of 4-1. The Tiger All-American upended a pair of top 10 opponents in No. 2 Ana Mijacika of Clemson, 4-6, 7-5, 7-6(3) and California's No. 7 Mariina Cossou, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3. She opened the tournament by downing No. 16 Anastasia Petukhova of Fresno State 1-6, 7-6(3) and followed up with a 5-7, 7-5, 7-6(2) win over Furman's No. 72 Laura Gioia.

The Auburn women's tennis team will be back in action Oct. 24-27 at the ITA Regional in Athens, Ga.
