Auburn doubles team advances at ITA All-American

PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. -
Auburn’s sixth-ranked doubles team of Pleun Burgmans and Emily Flickinger advanced to the quarterfinals at the Rivera/ITA All-American Championships with a comeback, three-set win on Thursday.

Burgmans and Flickinger defeated Depaul’s No. 44 tandem of Patricia Fargas and Ana Vladutu, 2-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-7) in the second round of the main doubles draw to wrap up the first day of play. With the victory, Burgmans/Flickinger moved their record to 3-1 this season after receiving a first-round bye to begin the tournament.

Auburn’s pair will face off against the nation’s third-ranked duo of Monique Albuquerque and Clementina Riobueno from Miami on Friday. Quarterfinal matches at the Rivera/ITA All-American Championships are set to begin at 6:30 p.m. CT.

In singles, Burgmans was eliminated earlier Thursday by California’s No. 16 Zsofi Susanyi, 6-1, 6-2, in the opening round of the main draw.
