AUBURN, Ala. - Allie Michaud claimed the singles title of the Flight 1A bracket at the Rice Invite on Sunday, defeating teammate Taylor Russo in the finals, 6-1, 6-1. Auburn women's tennis picked up 11 victories in the tournament.
"I think this was a good starting point for us to see where we are and evaluate what areas we need to work on going into our season," head coach Lauren Spencer said. "This tournament provided great opportunities for us to play teams we don't normally see throughout the year and get some quality matches. This was a good starting point that we want to continue to build on throughout the fall season and into the spring."
Michaud got things going on Friday, with a win over No. 120 Julia O'Loughlin of Denver, 5-7, 6-1, 6-2. She advanced to the finals with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over No. 58 Wendy Zang (Rice).
