Sept. 12, 2010

AUBURN, Ala. -- Auburn's women's tennis team closed out the SEC Fall Classic with three wins Sunday at the Yarborough Tennis Center. The Tigers ended the weekend with eleven wins in singles and doubles matches.

"The first tournament was tough, but we held our own and did well in a lot of areas," head coach Tim Gray said.

Emily Newton got the team's first win of the day, defeating Mississippi State's Mariia Ryzhova 6-4, 6-2. Plamena Kurteva beat Kentucky's Misha Testerman 6-7 (4), 6-4, 6-0, to end her weekend with another stellar solo performance.

"We couldn't be more pleased with where we are now, and how we played this weekend," Gray said.

Taylor Schreimann also defeated a Kentucky Wildcat 6-1, 6-0 to win her flight.

"We know we've got things we need to work on and to improve on, but it's still just September."

The Tigers women's tennis team returns to action in Providence, R.I. Sept. 25 to begin the Brown Invitational.
